Collagen-based Smart Materials

Harnessing Collagen’s Triple Helix for Multifunctional Smart Materials

The Pina Lab is developing collagen-mimetic peptides inspired by the intricate structure of the collagen triple-helix. Our research focuses on harnessing these peptides to create functional biomaterials that intersect with cutting-edge bioelectronics. Our peptide-based biomaterials are engineered to exhibit unique properties that combine the mechanical and biological characteristics of human skin with the functionality of electronic systems. We are particularly interested in exploring their potential for wearable electronics, with applications in the fields of Biomedicine, Sensing, Personalized healthcare monitoring, among others.
